DC Super Hero Girls is a DC cartoon created by Lauren Faust, who also made My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This cartoon is a reboot of the original DC Super Hero Girls web-series and toyline from 2015. It premiered on Cartoon Network affiliates on March 8, 2019.

Plot

The show follows six DC super heroines: Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern, Karen Beecher/Bumblebee, and Zee Zatara/Zatanna. They go to Metropolis High School. The show follows their adventures in school as well as them saving the world.

Why It Rocks[edit | edit source]

  1. The show has a very pleasing, streamlined art-style and fluid animation.
  2. The songs, specially the theme song, are very catchy.
  3. Very likable characters, especially the main characters, who all save the day with their unique personalities and skillsets.
  4. It pokes fun at the DC lore. For example, the episode "#SuperWho" pokes fun at Superman being perfect and always winning everything.
    • In fact, it's basically Teen Titans Go! done right. Both shows are wacky superhero comedy satires, but DCSHG has more likable characters, more action scenes, and has better animation.
  5. Awesome and dynamic action scenes.
  6. It also pokes fun to pop culture in very fun and creative ways. One example is the famous Twilight parody ''Just Before Dusk'' that mocks the former's terrible acting and creepy ''romantic'' scenes.
  7. The writing and comedy is clever and the pacing is very fast.
    • In fact, that one face Zatanna, aka Zee Zatara, makes in the episode, #AllAboutZee, is a reference to both the Surprised Patrick meme from The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie and the face Br'er Fox made in Song of the South, and it's hilarious!
  8. Some good lessons for kids. It talks about topics such as bullying and caring for the environment.
  9. It fixes some stuff that the original web-series got wrong. In the original web-series, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy were heroes for some reason. In this show, they're rightfully restored to their villainous nature.
  10. Despite ''dumbing down'' some male characters (see BQ#2) they don't represent them as useless or inferior, as they're some episodes like #DCSuperHeroBoys where the main cast is seen working with the Invincibros (the main team of male superheroes in the show) as a team, which gives a good message about equality and teamwork. They're also episodes where the boys are seen hanging out with the girls.
  11. While it has a good count of cliches, it manages to give them an unique twist that makes them entertaining and sometimes unpredictable.
  12. Some sub-plots, particulary Barbara Gordon and Harleen Quinzel being best friends in their civilian identities, and mortal enemies as Batgirl and Harley Quinn, are very interesting.
  13. Not only it is better than the original web-show, but also arguably one of the best animated reboots in modern animation.

Bad Qualities

  1. The weakest episode of the show "#CrushingIt" had the girls trying to attack Steve Trevor, just because Wonder Woman had a crush on him and kept getting distracted, but never confessed her feelings to Steve.
  2. Some of the fan-favorite heroes (particulary males) such as Robin, can be rather idiotic, unlikable, and mean-spirited compared to their comic book counterparts, though not at the point of demonizing them as Birds of Prey did.
