Even Stevens is a Disney Channel Original Series that aired from June 17, 2000 to June 2, 2003 and it was created by Matt Dearborn.
Summary[]
It follows the life of the Stevens, a family living in suburban Sacramento, California, mainly focusing on the clashing personalities of its two younger siblings, Ren and Louis.
Why It Rocks[]
- Shia LaBeouf's acting is good.
- Ren and Louis have okay chemistry.
- It has a Hanukkah episode, making it one of the only Disney Channel shows to display other religions.
Bad Qualities[]
- Seen as a flop, this is regarded as one of the worst Disney Channel shows of all time.
- Louis is extremely obnoxious. He's annoying, disgusting, he mugs at the camera and he screams and yells way too much. It's been mistaken by viewers that he is autistic.
- Ren is lame, a know it all and an uptight wet blanket who complains too much about minute things. She's much too young to be this wound up. She's a terrible role model for young girls.
- Between Louis and Ren, there's no one to "root for". They're both ugly, annoying and unlikeable: Louis is repulsive and Ren is a boring perfectionist killjoy. While the show is centered around Louis and Ren as polar opposites, the writers ended up going too far, making Louis TOO goofy and Ren TOO serious. The extreme contrast between the two caused lack of relatability for young viewers. The other characters don't offer anything. This renders the show unwatchable.
- Christy Carlson Romano is a terrible actress. She is by far the worst actress on the show, and the only bad actress to come from Disney.
- Some episodes feature Ren singing. Christy Carlson Romano has an awful singing voice.
- The other characters, like their family and friends, are fairly forgettable.
- The show itself is very formulaic, the episode plotlines are forgettable.
- The show, while regarded as a comedy, is not funny at all. It relies too much on corny jokes, dumb visual gags and over the top, gross out humor, most of which don't land.
- There are no heartwarming moments, it's all just dumb slapstick.
- Beans is annoying and weird. It's been mistaken by viewers that he has down syndrome.
- The claymation intro is off putting, the models barely look like the actors and have unexpressive faces. The theme song is lame because it has no lyrics. This is the worst Disney Channel theme song of all time.
- The Even Stevens Movie, a television movie that served as the series finale, is one of the worst Disney Channel Original Movies of all time. Possessing most of the same aforementioned bad qualities of the show.
