This article is about a 2015 episode where Homer takes the kids to a Halloween Horror Festival. You're probably looking for the annual series of Halloween specials, "Treehouse of Horror".
Halloween of Horror (The Simpsons)
"Skippers. How can you reject a holiday where you could serve candy from a salad bowl?" - Homer Simpson.
After costing salesmen their job, they invade the Simpson household to get revenge on Homer. Meanwhile, Lisa starts becoming scared of everything after she experiences Horror Night at Krustyland, so Homer takes down his Halloween Everscream Terrors decorations to avoid scaring Lisa.
Why It Rocks[]
The Halloween decorations Homer and Marge put up look pretty decent.
For the first time in the show's ever so long running history, this is an actual Halloween episode that takes part in The Simpsons canon instead of being part of the Treehouse of Horror series, the latter is it's own canon instead of the regular canon of the show because, hints hints, Treehouse of Horror ain't canon.
Some funny moments, such as Homer's quotes, "Skippers. How can you reject a holiday when you could serve candy from a salad bowl?" & "I know when I'm sorry and I'm sorry now!", along with Marge's one to Santa's Little Helper, "Who wants to be a Yoda, who wants to be a Yoda?" - referencing the Star Wars franchise and even this quote "Shut it down! Shut the whole damn thing down!" Plus, so much more!
All the zombie creatures look very terrifying, cool, and is something that you would expect from a horror movie, along with the Halloween costumes the kids wear to school (despite Skinner removing some of Bart's pirate costume) and the trick-or-treating party (despite the guard saying to Marge that it's for residents only).
Some emotional moments as well, such as Lisa becoming scared of everything after experiencing Horror Night at Krustyland to the point where she starts crying, doesn't wear her Halloween costume and holds on to a feather called Tailey to keep her safe - causing Homer to take down the Everscream Terrors decorations.
As mentioned above, the guard not letting Bart and Marge into the trick-or-treating party is kind of justified, due to lots of people crashing last year's party.
The Halloween costume song Krusty the Clown sings is extremely catchy and great to dance to.
This episode has a good message to the viewers. As said by Homer: "You can't let fear shut down your brain, because between the two of us, we've only got one good one". Proving to us that Homer sometimes has a brain.
The way Homer and Lisa stop the salesmen thugs is very clever, as they light up lots of fireworks and craft a "help" sign for everyone to see out of decorations from every holiday - which is very impressive. But the thugs stay anyway when a police officer tells them about a 99-cent store.
Good ending: Homer puts up the Everscream Terrors decorations again on his house, and although Marge warned him about Lisa getting scared, she was pretending to be a monster in a coffin and overcame her fear of Halloween, and it ends with Lenny and Carl revealing them dressed up as Kang and Kodos when saying that it was not a typical Halloween experience for the Simpsons.
Bad Qualities[]
Principal Skinner removing some of the things from Bart's pirate costume was a bit nitpicky, along with the guard not letting Bart and Marge into the trick-or-treating festival despite being justified.
The Salesmen Thugs were pretty lazy and mean for stealing some of the Halloween decorations, lazing around Apu's store, making a dangerous deal with Homer (which got them fired thanks to Homer telling Apu) & trashing the Simpson residence just because Homer got them fired instead of realizing the made those wrongdoings.
