Inuyasha:  The Final Act is an anime series action, adventure, drama, romance, fantasy, comedy, romantic comedy, comedy-drama, Shonen battle

anime series written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa, directed by Masashi Ikeda for episodes 1-54 and Yasuano Aoki for episodes 55-167, musically composed by Kaoru Wada, and produced by Michihiko Suwa, Hideyuki Tomioka, and Studio Sunrise.  It's based on a manga written by influential mangaka Rumiko Takahashi and published by Shogakukan in the magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday.  It originally aired from October 3, 2009 to March 29, 2010, for 26 episodes in total.  It was the long awaited sequel to the original Inuyasha anime series, which finally finished the story of the manga. Exactly 11 years after the airing of its first episode, an anime-only sequel to the series, titled Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, premiered in 2020, which continues the story after the Final Act.

Plot[]

Thwarted again by Naraku, Inuyasha, Kagome Higurashi, and their friends must continue their hunt for the few remaining Shikon Jewel shards, lest they fully form into a corrupted jewel at the hands of Naraku. But Naraku has plans of his own to acquire them, and will destroy anyone and anything standing in his way—even his own underlings.  The persistent, unyielding danger posed by Naraku forces Sango and Miroku to decide what is most important to them—each other or their duty in battle. Meanwhile, Inuyasha must decide whether his heart lies with Kikyo or Kagome, before fate decides for him. Amid the race to find the shards, Inuyasha and his brother Sesshoumaru must also resolve their feud and cooperate for their final confrontation with Naraku, as it is a battle they must win in order to put a stop to his evil and cruelty once and for all.

Why It Rocks[]

  1. Excellent animation for early 2010s standards.
  2. High-quality and appealing art style and character designs.
  3. Great voice acting in both sub and dub.
    1. Kira Tozer, Kagome's second voice actress in English, also did a great job taking over her role after Moneca Stori, who retired prior to the beginning of dubbing production for this series.
  4. Amazing fight scenes, especially the final battle against Naraku.
  5. Great character developments, especially the relationships between Miroku and Sango, Inuyasha and Kagome, and Sesshomaru and Rin.
  6. This series finally ends the story of the original manga series, which fans have been waiting on for several years before it came out. Surprisingly, however, it does not end with The Final Act after Rumiko Takahashi's confirmation of continuing the story with Yashahime: Princess half Demon.

Bad Qualities[]

  1. While the conclusion is satisfying, it does have a bit of a Deus ex Machina.  After Naraku is defeated it seems like Kagome is trapped forever in her own time.  However, she's able to return to the Feudal Era for no logical reason other than she just loves InuYasha enough.
